Au-delà de son intérêt historique, il nous permet de découvrir un exceptionnel destin de femme très en avance sur son temps.

February 18, 1915, the fort is bombarded for the first time by twelve 420 mm rounds which causes little damage. From 8 June to 1 November 1916, the fort is used by the Germans as a shelter and command post for the area. The French attempt to retake the fort several times with enormous loss of life. They bombard the fort to destroy it with heavy shells, including 400 mm rounds, but the concrete walls resist.

Life inside the structure becomes impossible and the Germans eventually abandon the fort at the end of October. November 2, 1916, the fort is recaptured without resistance by a French patrol which finds it empty. By the end of the battle, in December 1916, the fort is almost in the same condition as it was in June, except for some damage caused by French artillery. 1918, the Casemates de Bourges are rehabilitated before being rearmed and an observatory along with an armoured command bunker are equipped with machine-guns.

Further defences including machine-guns are fitted in place of the turret 75, to defend the area between the ravine and the village of Dieppe. Exits and entrances of the fort are equipped with masonry baffles, armed with machine guns and grenade launcher chutes. France, et certaines de ses portions sont considérées comme particulièrement accidentogènes, notamment dans le département de la Charente, où plusieurs localités n’étaient pas encore déviées en 2017. 1er janvier 1975 entre ladite intersection et la limite départementale du Puy-de-Dôme, sur 33,420 km. Dans ces deux départements, l’État a repris le tronçon situé entre Limoges et le Puy-de-Dôme exclu.

Cette section a été finalement été définitivement rétrocédée aux départements en 2006. 1990 à partir de Limoges et Angoulême. La section de la route nationale 141 située entre Saintes et Cognac est fréquemment surnommée  route haute de Cognac  ou  route haute . Ce tronçon appartient à la RD 943. Elle est devenue RD 941C puis RD 944. 2 voies de la RN 141 a été entamée au début des années 1990. En 1991, c’est la portion de la sortie occidentale de Limoges qui la première est doublée. La finalisation de la liaison Limoges – Saint-Junien a permis la numérotation de certains échangeurs, dans le prolongement de la numérotation de la Route Centre-Europe Atlantique. Dans la Creuse, le département a mené divers travaux de modernisation de l’axe, notamment en aménageant des créneaux de dépassement.
