Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) recently signed a partnership with Land Maark Engineering, one of the leading condominium developers in the country. Accordingly, SLT will provide telecommunication infrastructure and services to the Land Maark Towers situated in Colombo 6, Dehiwala and Mount Lavinia.

SLT will be instrumental in facilitating the infrastructure and all its telecommunication services to Land Maark Towers and the occupants of the buildings. This will also include enabling in-building solutions through its mobile telecommunication arm, Mobitel. 

The agreement was signed by Mr Kiththi Perera – Chief Executive Officer and Mr Imantha Wijekoon – Chief Sales and Regional Officer on behalf of SLT, and Mr T. Nanthanan – Managing Director of Land Maark Engineering (Pvt) Ltd.  

Land Maark condominium are built on the principle of sustainability allowing plenty of daylight and natural ventilation to conserve energy. The partnership will also offer pre-paid phone time top ups using the BitMinutes token (BMT), which can be purchased and sent to any mobile phone, notably from a U.S. BMT wallet to any phone in Guatemala.

While BitMinutes brings its proven technology to the partnership, Fundacin Gnesis Empresarial (FGE) has Pronet, S.A. (AKISI) and its 50,000 locations in Guatemala. Customers of TAN-LA will ultimately be able to pick up their remittances at these locations.

Key to the partnership is the fact that the two companies have completed the integration of their respective platforms, making for a seamless transfer from the BitMinutes wallet to the Pronet, S.A. (AKISI)) wallet. The product roadmap also calls for the offering of microloans to Guatemalans, many of which are unbanked.

Ecobank Nigeria, in partnership with Vanguard Conferences and Economic Forum Series have announced that it is convening a Digital Financial inclusion Summit to drive, promote and deepen financial inclusion amongst the unbanked and underbanked population in Nigeria. Current statistics shows that 84.6 million Nigerians accounting for 47% of the population are unbanked, against mobile phone penetration which is up to 94.5%.

The Digital Financial Inclusion Summit slated for October 21st, will bring together trade groups and associations with large unbanked populations and individuals within the lower rung of the society who have not seen the need to be included in the financial sector or adopt financial services through digital platforms. This is a direct response to encourage the adoption of innovative payment solutions and digital banking services in the post covid-19 era.

Style icon and creative director, June Ambrose has partnered with Puma. She is behind Jay-Z‘s most iconic looks, such as his OTR I and II tour wardrobe and recently his iconic suits worn in Beyoncé‘s “Black Is King” film.

June will help PUMA redefine what it means to be stylish in sport. According to a press release,   she will take a holistic brand approach, extending her design eye across categories and age groups for girls and women’s collections throughout 2021 and beyond. 

June was introduced to PUMA through her long-standing relationship with JAY-Z, who serves as the creative director for PUMA Hoops.

Santander Bank Partners With Correos to Provide Basic Financial Services in Spain

Santander Bank recently announced it has signed a deal with Correos to provide services in Spain. The agreement will allow the banking group to provide services at a total of 4,675 Correos offices from the first quarter of 2021, with Santander’s basic financial services reaching an additional 1,500 municipalities through Correos.

“Bank customers will be able to withdraw and deposit cash at Correos offices, and postal workers will be able to deliver money to any address in Spain. Transactions will be free for Santander customers at Correos offices in areas where the bank is not present.”

Rami Aboukhair, the CEO of Santander Spain, spoke about the partnership by stating:

This deal is another step towards the financial inclusion of thousands who live in towns and villages where the bank does not have a branch or ATM. Starting next year, the digital banking services they can acess will also include cash deposits and withdrawals as well as cash delivery by post to addresses anywhere in Spain.”

Santander now has more than 5.1 million digital customers in Spain who connect to its app and website more than 22 times a month. The banking group further revealed that 65% of its active customers are digital. Since the state of emergency caused by COVID-19, the bank’s digital channels have played a key role in ensuring normal operations.
